New IWC Aquatimer - SSSHHH it's a secret!
Overview of the Aquatimer watch family 2009
Thanks to its robustness and dependability, the diver’s watch remains the sports watch of choice to this day and doubles as a reliable reserve as the indispensable underwater back up system, even if the dive computer now relieves the underwater sportsman of most of the necessary calculations. Once again, IWC Schaffhausen has extensively revised, both technically and aesthetically, its family of diver’s watches, first introduced in 1967 under the name Aquatimer and since then further developed on a number of occasions. This step coincides with a new partnership in support of environmental and marine conservation, which IWC has entered into with the Charles Darwin Foundation in Galapagos to mark the Darwin bicentennial year in 2009. One of the new Aquatimer models, the Aquatimer Chronograph Edition Galapagos Islands, is dedicated specifically to this commitment.
This new environmental commitment by IWC will start in the Darwin anniversary year – 2009 – in which the scientific world will celebrate the bicentenary of the birth of the great British biologist and behavioural scientist, Charles Darwin. He made his fundamental observations on the origin of species mainly on Galapagos, the unique archipelago in the Pacific Ocean, which was never in contact with the mainland at any time in the history of evolution. Specific animal and plant species not to be found anywhere else on earth evolved here through natural selection as a result of the differences in living conditions – even from one island to the next. This is also true of the marine life. Yet this “laboratory of evolution” is massively endangered by settlement, by illegal fishing and by the introduction of animals that are destroying the basis of existence of the indigenous species. The non-profit Charles Darwin Foundation (CDF) has more than 100 interns actively engaged in the conservation of this NESCO World Heritage Site, which is on the “Red List”. IWC not only backs this cause in non-material ways, but also through a considerable financial contribution to support the CDF in this worthy endeavour.

Urwerk UR-CC1 King Cobra Limited Edition Watch
Linear time sounds a lot like what time actually is (even though a few rogue physicists and/or time machine building hopefuls might disagree with you). Though that is exactly how this Urwerk UC-CC1 King Cobra watch displays the hours, minutes, and to a lesser degree, the seconds. This might be the perfect watch for regular computer users as telling the time looks a lot like the progress bar on a slow processing application.
Set as a limited edition in two materials, the UR-CC1 watch is an horological technical achievement reserved as a spectacle for most people, and as a new piece to their collection for just a few. With 25 pieces in 18k gray gold and another 25 pieces in 18k black gold (yea - makes no practical sense, I know), the limited edition King Cobra adds a new flavor the already creative and high technical looking luxury watch line by the famous boutique Swiss brand.
While luxuriously crafted in high grade materials (gold, titanium and others in each watch), the watch style is instrumental and "effective looking." Urwerk points to design influences as a late 1950s Patek Philippe concept watch displaying linear time, as well as the dashboards of older cars with similarly designed instrument gauges. These are not exactly the sexy subjects of most other $100,000 plus timepieces but for the right 50 people the story and look of the watch will easily match Urwerk's technical prowess and level of refinement. /..........

Crazy Homes, Nutty China Toyz, Portable gizmo, Tiny Things June 26th, 2009 Video Watch
Love having your video close but tired of lugging around that clunky Ipod? If so, then here’s a gadget just for you. It’s a very techy video watch that plays all your favorite videos and maybe even tells time. The telling time part I am not clear on since the manufacturer left that part out of the description.
The crazy watch below has a 1.5 inch video screen, 8 Gigs of memory and supports multiple video and image formats including support for e-books. Good luck reading that e-book on a 1.5 inch screen though
Seems manufacturers are trying to stick an lcd screen onto just about everything these days, so why not a video wrist watch? The picture may be a bit too small to see clearly and forget about trying to decipher the titles on any music videos. The idea is that it looks ultra hi tech and you will look either very cool or very geeky wearing it.
Here is another model of the video watch…
This hi techper watch is made in China, go figure, by Chinavision. China is great for hi tech useless gizmos.

Recycled PC Parts Digital Watch
With millions of computers headed to the landfill each year, many a creative entrepreneur is making products featuring recycled computer parts.
Take the recycled pc parts digital watch featured on TechChee, it is made using a recycled pc cable and a USB connector. The USB connector also serves as the power source for the watch’s internal battery, plug that baby into any USB outlet and it will power up the tiny battery.
Also, for some reason digital watches are making a comeback, they were a big hit back in the 80’s when they first started to come out.

Zypad wireless wrist-wearable war-phone
Once a watch simply told the time. Then along came Casio and digital watches, and soon calculators, thermometers, altimeters and even compasses were added onto the growing feature-list of this humble device.
Today, it's the mobile phone that's become the rampaging wildebeest of technological innovation, forcing older-tech devices such as cameras, videos and even the humble watch to the edge of extinction, as it encompasses more and more of the features once the preserve of these old 20th century devices.
But now, a new beast stalks the battlefields of gadget-land (and actual battlefields, too); a strange new hybrid born from a mutation of the mobile phone, the PC and the humble digital watch. This new species is the Parvus Zypad WL 1000 wrist-wearable wireless computer

Azimuth Watches
Azimuth is a relatively new watch company, founded in 2003, but they already have created a variety of intriguing designs. Their designs span the watchmaking spectrum from their Militare - 1 collection which are inspired by the pilot watches from World War II, to their angular and quirky Gauge Mecha-1 BMF designs. My favorite has to be the SP-1 Mechanique concept watch. The so-called spaceship watch has a rendition of Earth as seen from space which rotates every sixty seconds. It has a jumping hour display powered by a Unitas 6497 movement. It has a rotating disc which is at the base of a minute hand. The dial is decorated with small dots to resemble stars and the 45mm stainless steel case is capped by a domed sapphire crystal.
Octo Place de l’Etolie by Gerald Genta, A Beautiful Tribute
Well, we do know what you pretty ladies might say when you look at the Octo Place de l’Etolie by Gerald Genta. Yes, it is a wide watch at 39mm but that should not stop you from trying out this bold beauty. Trust us, it makes a strong beautiful statement in its 18K red gold case, mauve strap and diamond studs.
Your eye will first stop at the signature Gerald Genta retrograde minute hand that comes with a jumping hour indicator aperture. Yes, the minute hand only travels across the top half of the dial starting at point zero and then progresses to point sixty. Next step, it jumps to zero instantly.
The design of the watch they say is ‘perspective’ (wonder what they mean by the high-sounding word). But we do know the famous Place de l’Etolie in Paris which lends the watch its name. Apparently, the timepiece is dedicated to the same. In fact, one is amazed to see the watch capture the famous convergance of three roads at the Place de l’Etolie in its design. 199 diamonds line the dial and bezel making it a true jewelry watch.

Retrowerk's steampunk watch goes Victorian on your wallet
Watchismo's $1,098 Retrowerk-Steampunk watch is a little beyond my price range right now, but I mostly love it and shall commence the saving of pennies. From the Watchismo blog:
In the past, I've written about high end masterpieces like Vianney Halter's Antiqua (starting at $50,000 and up) and the artistic horology concept watches of Haruo Suekichi, but it was only a matter of time before affordable Jules Vernesque timepieces were made for those who want to actually own a high quality Steampunk wristwatch. Yes, the term has worn out its welcome but the look is timeless nevertheless -- and how can a riveted porthole watch not be cool?
The brand is Retrowerk of Germany and below, I photographed their off-the-wall collection wristwatches with elements of brass and steel pistons, portholes, rivets, compasses, revolving jump hour discs, screwcap crown covers, chains, automatic rotor mechanisms, and of course, many cogs and gears. The prices range from $429 to $1098 USD.

Below, a short video showing the tourbillon bi-axial being constructed, which as you may know is a little geary thing that goes click click whirr.,.....
This is the XXI Century Sundial, created by Alessandro using an Arduino microcontroller, a wall, and a laser.
This is a simple project of a sundial wherein the pinion is replaced by a line LASER I took from a LASER level. The LASER is mounted on a RC servo which in turn is driven by a micro controller. The micro controller keeps the time and turns the RC servo accordingly. ... Shorting pins 1-2 adds some life to the sundial and makes it count just the seconds. Hypnotic initially, then pointless. Originally put together using an Atmel controller, it is "very basic in design it does exactly what I wanted," Alessandro writes.

Cheap diamond USB watch necklaces raises question of fashionable multifunction
Fake diamonds + watch + USB drive make up this blinged out necklace marketed towards ladies who might want to carry their data around their necks. At $22 for 2 gigs, it's most definitely cheaper than buying each separately. But can Multifunction really = High Fashion? With the rare exception, I'm inclined to say no. Of course, this could change as our aesthetic tastes evolve over time.

Oriental Blossom Time Cushion by Angular Momentum
Luxury watches fall in a number of categories including vintage watches, sports watch, diamond watches, and more. But how about luxury watches so decadent that putting one on would change the way people look at you? What about luxury watches so delectable that the a prince in Arabia would most likely own one?
That’s exactly what you would find in Angular Momentum’s Sculpture Collection, a collection of timepieces hand sculptured in silver and gold.
The watch above is entitled the Oriental Blossom Time Cushion and is hand sculptured and engraved using 18 karat gold. All over the watch, 100 full cut diamonds add an amazing sparkle and a pear shaped padparadscha sitting proudly in the middle pointing at the digital time display. The Oriental Blossom Time Cushion by Angular Movement is a mechanical self-winding movement and a digital time display works through revolving disk....
One thing I was curious about was the Padparadscha. The Padparadscha is described as one of the world’s most expensive and rarest gems… right along with the ruby or the emerald. However, a natural Padparadscha is almost none existent its so rare that they start pricing at $5,000 per carat and can get up to $30,000 per carat depending on size, color, clarity, and tone.
